Mutual help and support reign among the shawl knitters and vendors. If a vendor’s son is taken ill, it is to this woman that all send an intended buyer. If someone has lost a relative, she is sure to get support. Loud-mouthed and cocky vendors aren’t liked here. However, should an intended buyer turn up suddenly, the vendors all rush at him or her boisterously offering their shawls. But this is only an act; each has her role and the behaviour conforms to set rules. It can happen that a buyer comes and moans that, “yes, I would like to buy a shawl, but haven’t got the money.” Well, the shawl woman advises, “Just start putting aside 100 rubles in some hideaway place for a year or two and you’ll have saved enough for a shawl – and I’ll have knitted one for you by that time.” Well, sometimes you just have to coax someone. And kind people come to thank the vendors later. Среди платошниц царит взаимопомощь и поддержка. У кого-то из то- варок сын заболел, женщины, прежде всего, предлагают покупателям ее платки. У кого-то умер родственник, обязательно помогут. Горластых, на- пористых не любят. Хотя, только появится покупатель, на него набрасы- ваются, шумно, скопом, наперебой предлагают платки. Оказывается, это впечатление извне, а внутри у каждой своя роль и поведение соответству- ет заведенным правилам. Бывает приходит женщина и говорит – хотела бы купить, да денег нет – вязальщица делится своим житейским опытом – откладывай, говорит, по 100 рублей в тайное место.
